AdBlue

What is Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) and How Does It Work?

Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) is an after-exhaust treatment system designed to reduce the levels of nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the exhaust of diesel vehicles. SCR systems use AdBlue, a 32.5% urea solution, which is injected into the vehicle's exhaust pipe. This process initiates the Selective Catalytic Reduction reaction, converting harmful NOx into nitrogen, water vapor, and carbon dioxide. These harmless byproducts are then released from the exhaust.

High temperatures within the diesel engine cause nitrogen in the intake air to form NOx, a harmful gas that negatively impacts both respiratory health and the environment. To meet stringent emission standards (EURO 4, EURO 5, and EURO 6), diesel vehicle manufacturers incorporate SCR systems to effectively regulate NOx emissions.

Which AdBlue Packaging Should You Purchase?
When choosing AdBlue packaging, consider the following guidelines:

Avoid Drums: Mishandling can introduce contaminants like dirt, engine oil, and grease into the AdBlue tank, damaging the SCR system.

1000 Litres IBC Tank: Ideal for fleets with fewer than eight Class 4 or 5 SCR diesel vehicles. It is cost-effective and environmentally friendly, reducing the use of single-use plastic jerry cans.

10 Litres and 20 Litres Packaging: Suitable for managing inventory. The 20-litre cans typically top off the tank completely. However, these involve single-use plastic jerry cans.

Why Can't AdBlue Plastic Packaging (Jerry Can) Be Reused?

AdBlue is highly pure, with impurities monitored at parts per million. Reusing jerry cans for other purposes (e.g., vehicle wash chemicals, lubricants) can contaminate them, and these contaminants can enter and damage the SCR system. Always keep the AdBlue tank area clean and tidy to avoid such issues.

My Vehicle’s AdBlue Tank Cap is Missing. Do I Need to Replace It?

Yes, you should replace it promptly. The SCR system is sensitive to dirt, dust, and contaminants. If the AdBlue tank cap is missing, cover the tank inlet immediately to prevent contaminants from entering.

Which is the Best AdBlue Brand in Singapore?
While there is no definitive "best" brand for AdBlue, AceRev AdBlue is commonly used by vehicle dealers in Singapore. Ultimately, the choice is yours.
